Vacation Mission

These pieces were composed primarily during the summer of 2017, and I worked on the music in patches until now (December 2019).

I enjoyed working with the trio format, and I had previously worked with the Bassoon, Clarinet, Trombone and the Doublebass during my time in university. I wanted to explore these instruments within the context of a trio with a piano as the foundation.

Vacation mission

For Vacation Mission I chose Trombone and Doublebass to help build a repertoire of music that uses the same instrumentation as B n’ B Hotel (Trombone and Doubleass). This was a duo written for a local concert series, and I felt that those instruments needed more material. Hence Vacation Mission, a short quip of possibility felt in pastel.

Summertime vacation

Summer Time Vacation is a trio for Bassoon, Clarinet and Piano and consists of multiple movements. I wanted to explore timbre possibilities along with thematic repetition in the music. Movements were added and edited during the 2 years this piece was under construction, and it took a while to finalize the structure of the music.

The music for Summertime Vacation was written in the same time period as Vacation Mission, so I felt there a consistent creative link between the two pieces. I decided to brand and borrow musical language from both pieces.
